I think the first Surprised by Truth was better, but this is still a worthwhile edition. The stories of converts are so inspiring that I feel as if I convert to my own Catholic faith every day. I know why I am a Catholic, but I still can't wrap my head around why those of different faiths, who may hate Catholics or have radically different dogmas, are attracted to the Catholic Church in such a way that they feel they are saying "no" to God if they don't convert. I suppose we take our faith for granted. And no we don't worship statues or Mary, the Pope, or cookies. We worship God, and Jesus is our Lord, our savior, our king, and our brother. Amen.
An excellent compilation of stories about people who viewed the Catholic Church very negatively. However, after circumstances caused them to look much deeper into the history and teachings of the Church, they were greatly surprised. Their previous views about the Church were not at all accurate. In fact, as they delved into honest and earnest investigation it became increasingly clear to them that the best path to Jesus was through the Catholic Church.An honest, thought provoking book that will introduce one to the Catholic Church.
Words cannot express the emotion you feel when reading these two books 1 and 2. As a Catholic trying to explain to my fiancé of another faith - just trying to answer his questions was beyond difficult, I felt like I was under attack because he memorized the bible, the bible doesn't even mention ANY where sola scriptura - bible alone, it is tradition and the wonderful bible. Until I read these two books. I am a cradle Catholic (born into my faith not a convert) and I have to admit I took so many things for granted! I saw through the eyes of these converts the most beautiful religion in the world (MINE) and the only one traced all the way back to Jesus when He made Peter the first Pope. Thank God for my faith!
Amazing book. We reverted to the Catholic Church after 13 years as Protestants (Reformed Baptist) and found very similar the stories to ours and similar struggles.
This book puts together a collection of powerful testimonies from people who discovered or re-discovered the True Faith laid out by Christ (the Catholic Church and its teachings). I was most inspired and deeply moved by these testimonies. I will contact at least one of the contributors to this book. I felt particularly identified with his story and will seek advise on how to follow the path he took to "Rome". Buy and distribute among your friends the Surprised by Truth series. I did give away my copy of the preceding book of this Surprised by Truth series and I am pleased to inform that it helped to convert my friend to Catholicism. I am looking forward to read the third book of the Surprised by Truth series.
I have read both the first and second book of Surprised By Truth. Both were excellent. Anyone reading them objectively, with an open mind and heart, will learn a lot about the Christian faith in general and Catholicism specifically. I could say a lot about these essays; they are so well-written. What is most important is that they are written from the point of view of love and truth-seeking. I recommend Surprised By Truth.
