I've used this book on three trips to Istanbul. It's accurate, easy to follow, and has about as much detail as a curious traveler can absorb. There are a few pretty good guide books in English for Istanbul. This is the best.
If you are an architect, or a student of the history of architecture, or have travelled extensively to other Islamic countries and have seen many mosques to which to compare the mosques of Turkey, this book may be particularly helpful.I went to see as many mosques as I could, as they are amazing and tell a big story of Turkey and Istanbul. But, probably because I'm not educated enough, after a while they did start to run together - even as I was amazed by them all!
