For anyone looking for a recent history of the Golden State Warriors this is your book. While the book's title makes it sound like it's going to be overly focused on analytics and how they've benefitted the Warriors the past couple of years, it's much more than that. Malinowski provides a pretty good overall history of the franchise, detailing the ups and mostly downs of Golden State basketball the last forty years or so.It's a fun read, and the personalities of the players, coaches, and owners shines through on every page. Malinowski highlights several individuals in the book, most notably GM Bob Myers, owner Joe Lacob, coach Steve Kerr, and of course players such as Steph Curry. He outlines how all of these different parts coming together was essential in turing the Warriors into the NBA's premier franchise today. If you are a basketball fan or a fan of the Warriors you'll enjoy this ball.
Was very excited to read about the behind-the-scenes aspect of sports management and sports science, but this book fell short of providing any sort of detail that would have made it applicable in the real world. The author does a good job of describing the "what," but missed a great opportunity to analyze the "how." Much of the book was a narrative of events-- what happened-- but disappointingly short on much more than that. Rather than go through statistics on games that led to championships, I was hoping for more of a behind-the-scenes of HOW science was used.
Wow!! A great read and a great writer. A must-read Book.
I have read many books detailing sports history and must say that this is easily the most disappointing. Virtually no "inside" information given, that isn't already been in print. Do not waste your money. I was expecting an inside account of how this team was assembled. Detailed accounts of discussions between front office personnel. None are in this book.
Great book with lots of history. Quite fun!!!
A must have for a Warrior fan or even a fan of Pro Basketball.
This was a decent read, although I expected a deeper dive into the executive decisions and technology that separated the Warriors from the rest of the league.
The author doesn't go into any detail about how the data analytics that the Warriors were running in the background actually helped win more games.
