I absolutely adore this book series. I want to collect them all for my little girl going on 7. The bios are written well enough for parents to read and enjoy but also for little ones to understand. The illustrations are magical. Being a die hard Austen fan whether in print or screen adaption, this was a must for me. All of the little people big dreams books are so encouraging with themes of perseverance, determination, integrity, grit, kindness. Truly must have for littles library and to pass on to future generations as heirloom.

Today, I am sharing with you Jane Austen by Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This book was recently published on June 5th, I received a Digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. From the publisher, New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the remarkable life of Jane Austen, the British novelist, in this true story of her life. Little Jane grew up in a big family that loved learning and she often read from her father's library. In her teenage years she began to write in bound notebooks and craft her own novels. As an adult, Jane secretly created stories that shone a light on the British upper classes and provided a witty social commentary of the time, creating a new dialogue for female characters in books. With stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, this empowering series celebrates the important life stories of wonderful women of the world. From designers and artists to scientists, all of them went on to achieve incredible things, yet all of them began life as a little child with a dream. These books make the lives of these role models accessible for children, providing a powerful message to inspire the next generation of outstanding people who will change the world!I absolutely love the books: Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, and Emma. So I was delighted, when given the opportunity to read a biographical picture book on her life. Having a children's book on Jane Austen means, I can share about this incredible writer with my students and my daughter! The focus on the book were topics relevant to what children would like to know: family, hobbies, and how she became a writer. Here we learn that Jane was the youngest of eight children, loved to read books, and was dissatisfied with being a girl due to all the limitations she had. Jane's love for reading books, was a spark for wanting to become a writer. When given an upsetting event in her life, she took pen to paper and wrote her first novel, Pride & Prejudice. The book ends with a timeline of Jane Austen's life, a short synopsis, and resources that you may find more about her.

This book is a perfect way to teach children about Jane Austen. It is an abridged version of this remarkable British author's life that kids can easily understand.Little Jane was born into a large family with seven brothers and sisters. She observes that girls are not given the same privileges as boys and inside of her she feels that is unfair. Her father includes her and her sister in classes that he teaches to the sons of wealthy men at their home. It is there that Jane falls deeply in love with books and choses to read over play with her dolls. She spends endless hours pouring through books in her parent's library. She and her siblings often write and perform their own plays and every night around the fireplace the family sits happily and listens to Jane's stories that she writes. As an adult she writes books that inspired young women to be independent and think for themselves. Encouraging them to make their own decisions about their lives and not depend on others. Her novels are read and loved by all and she writes them anonymously .... "By a Lady." Only her family members and a few close friends know she is the true author. Her brother, Henry, finally reveals her identity to the public after her death. The illustrations are sweet and the author includes extra facts at the back of the book about this inspiring writer. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the incredible life of Jane Austen. The text and illustrations show Jane as a child standing and watching her brothers while she and her sister have to help her mother. The author, Isabel Sanchez Vegara’s makes the point that Jane Austen is lucky that her father educated her with the boys he taught so she was able to read and write. She told and wrote stories which she and her siblings acted out or listened to her read long into the evening. Her first novel, "Pride and Prejudice" was based upon an actual situation in her own life, but with a happier ending. This is a child friendly biography that shows a young woman striving to achieve her dream. It is also important to stress that she wrote about strong and determined women at a time that this trait was looked down on. This book could be used to teach young children how to write a biography, show that it is important to have a dream and strive to achieve it as well as to introduce one of the greatest authors of our time to a new generation. A good book for a school library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book to read via netgalley. The rating, opinions and ideas stated are my own. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars.
